Happy Autumn everyone, this is Nicky Scott, your new 50+Bus Trip Coordinator, and Audrey Nelson, co-coordinator.
It's that time of year when we begin our monthly bus trips to new and exciting places. For our September trip we are going to the Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park, right here in Houston!
The Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park, a living history center in Downtown Houston, Sam Houston Park is a protected landmark and a designated State of Texas Historical site.
Established in 1899 as a 20-acre Victorian landscaped park. Today it is home to 10 historic houses such as the Kellum-Noble House, Houston's oldest surviving house that once served as a school; an 1823 log cab; an 1891 church built by German and Swiss immigrants; 1850 Nichols Rice Cherry House; 1868 San Felipe Cottage; and a 1905 Mansion to name a few. We will visit three of the 10 houses during the tour which will take about an hour, depending on the number of people. There should be minimal walking.
Lunch to follow at the old Houston Post Office, where you will have an opportunity to try interesting ethnic culinary delights or regular good ole American fare. There is a dining area and gardens on the roof top where you can eat and view the beautiful Houston skyline, or remain at the restaurant level and eat lunch.
We will leave St Catherine's at 9am for arrival at 9:45am to the site. Our tour begins at 10am. Cost per person $15 (non-refundable). Sign Ups are due by September 9 and full payment by September 11. Follow the instructions contained in the signup email (click button below) on where to send your payment.
Please plan on getting to St. Catherine's 15 minutes before we are due to leave so that you can get yourselves sorted and use the facilities if need be.
We hope to see you there! As always, All parishioners age 50+ are welcome.
